Tecradon, headquartered in Western Saudi Arabia, provides industrial services such as insulation, refractory coating, mechanical services, and civil engineering for power plants and industries across the Kingdom. We also offer vendor inspection services at source locations throughout Saudi Arabia.
An expansion joint is a mid-structure separation designed to absorb vibration, join objects, or allow movement. It is commonly located on structures such as bridges, highways and sidewalks. These expansion joints are used to add flexibility to industrial ducting systems and fan/blower connections to absorb thermal growth, isolate vibration and noise, and allow for misalignments. Their large movements in a given space, small spring rates, and large temperature range give them advantage not available with other types of joints. They are needed in a wide array of industries, including power, petrochemical, pulp & paper, along with countless other industrial facilities.
In structures, expansion joints can help absorb the expansion and contraction of concrete slabs as a result of temperature changes. Without expansion joints, the concrete can crack or distort. However, expansion joints on their own are susceptible to failure. A major issue is incompressible materials that lock the joints and create stresses that may cause concrete spalling or shattering.
Through the years TecRadon has carried out countless Expansion Joint Repairs on heavy steel constructions in carbon steel or stainless steel, such as thick walled welding ends, thick walled flanges and other hardware like gimbals etc.
As a general rule a full replacement of the Expansion Joint is the most cost-efficient solution if the Expansion Joint is:
A simple Axial Expansion Joint or Universal Expansion Joint, where the bellows are the main element of the Expansion Joint
If the Expansion Joint has thin walled flanges, welding ends.
In some circumstances, instead of buying completely new Expansion Joints, options for refurbishment or repair of Expansion Joints is worth considering. From a time perspective, cost perspective and environmental perspective refurbishment often represents an attractive solution. TecRadon is equipped with Technical experts for field inspection and expansion joint evaluation services, complete field installation, temporary joint repair and splicing, and turn-key installation.
Types of expansion joints currently available include:
It is a versatile refractory material which is highly stable in high temperature environments and has excellent thermal expansion, thermal shock resistance and erosion resistance.
Fabric or Non-Metallic Expansion Joints (elastomeric/composite):
Also known as refractory bricks, are used to line the walls of industrial kilns, furnaces, and other high-temperature equipment. There are several types of kiln bricks based on their composition, manufacturing process, and application. These include: Fireclay Bricks, High Alumina Bricks, Silica Bricks, Magnesia Bricks, Zirconia Bricks, Insulating Bricks, Chromite bricks etc.
All TecRadon frame welding procedures comply with AWS D1.1 or the equivalent. All expansion joints comply with Fluid Sealing Association (FSA) guidelines. Expansion joint frames are fabricated using a wide variety of steels, including A36, A588, stainless steel, and other exotic alloys.
TecRadon stocks a wide variety of fabrics and insulation for standard and emergency deliveries, for low temperature applications ranging up to 1800°F, and can accommodate molded fabric requests. Our qualified expansion joint engineering and service teams are eager to earn your business and help you maintain an efficient operation.
